Members of the Rivers State Primary Health Management Board visit Asari-Toru Local Government Area to ascertain the state of health facilities across the LGA



Members of the Rivers State Primary Health Management Board led by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Agiriye Monima Harry, visited Asari-Toru Local Government Area to ascertain the state of health facilities across the LGA and to parley with the Executive Chairman of Council, Hon. Onengiyeofori George, on ways to partner together to move the sector forward.

In a heart-to-heart session at the Executive Conference Room at the Council Secretariat in Buguma City, the Permanent Secretary poured glowing encomiums on the Council Boss for rejigging and revitalising the health sector, thereby making it vibrant, particularly on his sustained policy on "NO WORK, NO PAY;

He urging the Chairman to both solidify and consolidate that policy by extending monthly attendance from 12 to 16 days, especially to health workers because of their importance to humanity.
Reeling out their mission, Dr. Harry informed his host of their ongoing tour of Local Government health facilities across the State, Asalga being the 10th.

He then reiterated the need to set up a Ward Development Committee (WDC) and LGA Health Management Authority as provided for in the Law guiding Local Government health management; ending his speech with firm promises to partner with the Local Government Council in improving existing Health facilities and even constructing new ones based on need.
In response, the Executive Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area, Hon. Onengiyeofori George, began by appreciating the Board for the rave reviews accorded him in the LGA's health sector, and restated his stance on playing hard ball on health workers, which, according to him, is a service he owes his people, saying categorically that 'the interest of Asalgans is more important than his personal interest.'
And while welcoming the much needed PPP from his august visitors which the Executive Chairman personally appealed for, he said 'I'll be interested in anything that will benefit my people.'
Hon. George, ended his response by urging the Board to improve contractor relationship and ensure local content is used; and then promised to allocate a flat from the soon-to-be-completed Staff Quarters to the MOH.
