The Construction of road from mainland to Bonny Island is being distrupted by some youth from Asarama in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The youth spokesman disclosed that the name of their community "ASARAMATORU" is excluded in the name " BONNY/ BODO ROAD" hence the protest.
The spokesman said the bridges crossing Asaramatoru is wrongly name "Opobo Channel Bridge" meanwhile the river is of Asaramatoru, and the name must be changed to that of asarama.
He lamented about non recognision by Julius Berger Construction Company on employment and subcontract opportunities as host and impacted community.
They also lamented about conspiracy between Julius Berger and their neighbour communities to neglecte Asarama Kingdom.
While demanding for a community development agreement with the company, they stressed that the third bridge named "Nanabie Bridge” must be changed and call “Emenochan Bridge” being the aboriginal name of the river.
The Bonny/ Bodo road is being constructed by the Federal Government in partnership with NLNG and Rivers State Government.
