Ogu/Bolo LGA Boss commissions 1000 capacity skill acquisition/ training facility built by Technip FMC to train the people of Ogu community in Rivers state

In keeping with his promise of ensuring that youths in Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area are properly trained, equipped, employable, occupationally mobile and set to be independent entrepreneurs, the Executive Chairman of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, Hon (Barr) Vincent Nemieboka, today commissioned a fully equipped skills acquisition center in Ogu.

The building which was built by previous administration, was rehabilitated and renovated by Barr Vincent Nemieboka, and equipped by Technip FMC.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Hon (Barr) Vincent Nemieboka thanked the management of Technip FMC for deeming it fit to equip the skill centre as part of their cooperate social responsibility to their host community.
The council said there is a paradox in the educational sector where people with certificates don’t have skills and those with skills don’t have certificates and this is a source of unemployment crisis in the nation.
The facilities was handed over to Ogu Community by Technip FMC as CSR to its host communities, but for proper maintenance and optimal utilization, Barr Vincent Nemieboka appealed to the Chiefs of Ogu Community to hand it over to the Ogu/Bolo Local Government Council.
He said if this is done, the Council will maintain the equipment and also provide instructors to teach the students.
Barr Vincent Nemieboka said the Council is interested in training and ensuring the Youths of the LGA have skills, that is why the council has issued 2,500 applications forms to eligible and interested youths in the LGA, to help the Council get relevant information and statistics on what the youths are interested in so more energy and resources can be channelled to those areas.
The Chairman said no package would be given to anyone at the end of the training but those who genuinely use the skills they have Learnt to start a business, the Council will support such businesses till it matures, he appealed to youths of the LGA to avail themselves of the opportunity.
He called on Technip FMC not to relent in their CSR as there is room for more equipment like culinary and baking, welding and fabrication, heavy and light duty driving etc.
Speaking earlier the Business Development Manager Technip FMC , Mr Sam Ben Ohen said Technip FMC is a proud stakeholder of Ogu Community and are able to do their business in peace because of the cordial relationship they have with the community.
He said the project is a way of thanking the community for being good host, for the support that the community has supported the company and a channel which Technip FMC is using to impact in the lives of the people.
Mr Sam Ben urged the community to secure and maintain the equipment, he prayed that when they would come back for a progress assessment of the facility, the results would be outstanding.
Also giving his opening remarks, the Chairman Ogu Divisional Council of Chiefs (ODCC), Chief Lawrence Williams Iyama said people would depend less on government when they have skills that would make them self dependent entrepreneurs.
He thanked Technip FMC for conceiving such noble initiative that would better the lives of the people in Ogu Community, he promised that the beneficiaries would concentrate and be commitment to learning.
The Ogu Community Liaison Officer of Technip FMC, Mr Fred Iyaye while taking dignitaries round the facilities said the facilities is structured to train over 1000 people and this would be done in batches.
The facilities in the training centre are hairdressing equipment, pedicure and manicure equipment, sewing machines, weaving and embroidery machines, accessories and consumable.
