Statement by Gov. Wike during flag-off of Rumuokwuta flyover as he appealed to residence to endure the inconvenience of the construction

According to Rivers State government house press,  Governor Nyesom Wike has appeals to Rivers residents to endure inconvenience of constructing 11th, 12th flyovers, he said it is for the good of the people.

The governor reiterated that he will complete every project he initiated before he leaves office in 2023.

The governor who completed several abandoned projects of the immediate past administration in his first year in office stated this during the official flag-off of Flyover 11 to be sited at Rumuokwuta/Rumuola Junction, Ikwerre Road, Port Harcourt on Thursday, 18 August, 2022.

Wike siad: "I am not going to abandon any project for the governor that is coming. I will complete any project that I have awarded. My successor is coming with a new slate, he cannot say I left problems for him.

"I know what our people are going to pass through in constructing these flyovers. This is the period we should make sacrifice, this is the period we must be patient, at the end of the day the benefit will come, the multiplier effect will be tremendous. 

"I want to appeal to the people to endure the hardship in these few months that Julius Berger will be constructing this project. I also want to enjoin the communities to please cooperate with the construction firm so that the project can be delivered at the specified time.

"Yesterday we released the money for the compensation for every property that will be affected here. 

"We have paid for the relocation of the electric poles, we have also paid for the properties that will be affected in Mgbuoba and Azikiwe-Illoabuchi projects. 

"The total money we have released for compensation for these three projects is about N4.2bn.
