IPMAN chairman in Rivers state apologized to the general public for the inconveniences caused during their strike action as it has been called off


Following the intervention of the Rivers State Government, DSS, Rivers State Police Command, NUPENG Leadership and other critical stakeholders, the industrial action recently embarked on by the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria IPMAN and Tanker Drivers that gave rise to fuel scarcity in Rivers State, has been suspended.

According to Dr. Joseph Obele, the Chairman IPMAN, Rivers State, loading and dispensing of fuel at the normal selling rate will commence immediately.
Dr. Obele appealed to the general public for calm as normalcy has been restored in the system. He however, apologized for the inconveniences caused by the industrial action.
The IPMAN boss said the pathway to peace and avoidance of the repeat of the ugly situation is for government to ensure all parties honour agreed guidelines and undertakings.
On the cause of the crisis, Dr. Joseph Obele revealed that reports show some local government taskforce operatives seized trucks loaded with genuine petroleum products and all pleas for their release fell on deaf ears. It was also discovered that some uniform men had also stormed loading depots and requested for additional levies from marketers.
The prompt intervention of Dr. Joseph Obele to broker peace and reconciliation with all aggrieved parties, stakeholders, Government and security agencies, led to the suspension of the strike action and an order for the immediate commencement of loading in the area.
Dr Joseph Obele took oath of office on 8th November 2018 as the elected executive chairman of IPMAN Rivers State Chapter. in his acceptance speech, he promised to use the office as a son of the state to halt the incesant fuel scarcity and consistent oil sector strike. He just match action to his words, by championing the suspension of the strike action.
