Next Nigeria president must play dirty to get it right ----- Peterside

Rivers son Atedo Peterside, said whoever wins the presidential elections in 2023, will need to "do the dirty work" to get the country working.

Peterside spoke on Channels TV ‘Politics Today’ on Friday, he said the current administration had refused to attend to the problems facing the country, therefore had left it to whoever came next.

He said, "This government has kicked the can down the road. There were many obvious things they were supposed to do. They dragged their feet for a long time, and now they’re postponing many of them until the middle of next year, which is the same as saying they don’t want to fix the problem.

"So, therefore, whoever is coming in May 2023, has to begin by clearing the mess that should have been tackled last year, the year before and so on. So, therefore, I will be very worried if someone coming next year doesn’t understand that he has to do all the dirty work which this government has refused to do."

"We have a monetary and exchange rates crisis and the root of it is fiscal indiscipline. So, whoever comes in next year, the first thing he can do, is go to the root of the fiscal indiscipline to cut out the things we cannot afford.”

He further stated that the country needed a leader who would bring truth to the office of the President, noting that the government had been lacking the sincerity and courage to handle issues affecting the country.

Peterside is the founder of Investment Banking & Trust Company Limited (IBTC) which founded in February 1989. He however served as the Bank's CEO till 2007.
