Over 70% of PHED customers have not paid electricity bill in the last 6months

Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution, (PHED) PLC has raised an alarm that over 70% of its customers have not paid for electricity consumed in the last six months.

The new Managing Director, Doctor Benson Uwheru, made this revelation during a news conference in Port Harcourt.

He also emphasised that a community owed the power company 21 billion naira in accumulated debt.

Doctor Uwheru also said the power utility recorded 5.2 billion naira out of over 7.4 billion naira billed energy received from the Generation Company for the month of August 2022.

The PHED. MD  said about 60 per cent of its customers in its Franchise Areas of Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers States had electricity meters.

He also spoke on the recent re-organisation of PHED and other Distribution Companies by the Federal Government.
