Rivers State government takes over forty hectares of land from DAAR communication due to petition from Ozuoba community but says they are open for new negotiations



The Rivers State government has taken over forty hectares of land out of what was earlier allocated to DAAR Communications Plc, operators of the African Independent Television and Raypower FM in Port Harcourt.

This followed a report by the Rivers State House of Assembly Committee on Public Complaints and Petition over a petition by four communities in Obio/Akpor Local Government.
The chairman of the committee on Public Complaints and Petition, Evans Bipi while presenting the report of his committee, said DAAR Communications Plc failed to provide land allocation documents from the Rivers State Government.
He also said DAAR Communications Plc paid about eighty-six million naira to the Rivers state government against the request of over four hundred and seventy-seven million naira.
The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Ikuinyi Owaji Ibani after debates by his colleagues ruled that since DAAR Communications Plc has a cordial relationship with the State Government they can open new negotiations.
The State House of Assembly during the sitting referred Rivers State Heritage Preservation Bill 2022 to House Committee on Culture, Rivers State Maintenance of Buildings to the House Committee on Housing as well as Rivers State Mental Health Bill 2022 House Committee on Health for public.

Recall that rivnews had reported about a complaint from Ozuoba. The Representatives of Ozuoba community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State approached the House Committee On Public Complaints And Petitions of the Rivers State House Of Assembly to register their displeasure towards the operations of Daar Communications PLC, operators of African Independent Television (AIT) in Ozuoba community.
