Youths of Bodo community in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State are demanding 40 million naira per person as compensation for each member of the community from Shell following at least four oil spills the community have experienced with a month period.
The youths made the demand in position paper they presented to the Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) by oil stakeholders to the site of the recent spill on August 30, said the incidents led to the destruction of aquatic life and the environment.
Recall the Bodo community have experienced different oil spill within August and September.
The document which was obtained by news desk through the Youth and Environment Advocacy Centre (YEAC-Nigeria) also requested the provision of relief materials for people of Bodo community to cushion the effect of the spills.
The company is to issue a Statement base on the demand from the community.
