Project description by the Hon. Commissioner for Works during flag-off of Rumuokwuta flyover

Alabo George-Kelly

Giving the project description, the Hon. Commissioner for Works, Dr. George-Kelly D. Alabo, FNIQS stated that the 11th flyover will take off from Ebony Junction on Rumuola Road and terminate after Seventh Day Adventist Church on Ikwerre Road.

"The flyover is going to take off from Ebony Junction axis of Rumuola Road, curve into Rumuokwuta Junction and then terminate somewhere after the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Ikwerre Road. Unlike other flyovers that are straight, this one is slightly different because it will be like a parabolic curve.

"This flyover will be 1007.5m in length, probably the longest of all the flyovers. It is going to have a cross-sectional width of 17.6m because it is a dual carriageway with a median of 1m and walkways of 1m on each sides.

"Substructuraly, we are going to have 272 piles, 800 millimetres diameter each, these piles will be driven to the point of refusal up to the depth of between 19 to 22 metres as shown in our cone penetration test. We are going to be having 168 beams launched, each of those beams will have two elastomeric bearings so that movements due to vertical compression can be accommodated," the Commissioner said.
